I'm looking for ideas on how to support the presidential candidate of my choice. I've volunteered in the past for Pete Ashdown's Senate campaign, but that was organized by others, I just showed up for parades or to help manage booths, etc. At this point in time, there is no official campaign coordination going on here in Utah for any of the Democratic campaigns, and I think many fellow kossacks will find themselves in a similar situation.
So, what ideas do you have or have you used in the past to help spread the word about the campaign you want to back?
I'm supporting Barack Obama for '08, and his campaign has a really nice setup for the "netroots effort". So, it'll be a good way to communicate with others in my area, and set up events, etc.
But, what do we do at these events? It's likely that attendees already have "the message", and know what Obama stands for. I'd be preaching to the choir to try to convince them to vote for Obama, so I think that we need to be organizing around educating other Utahns, get Obama's message out there. I'm expecting that in the future, there will be campaign materials available to hand out, etc. But, I want to start right now, get the momentum going as much as possible, so that the effort will be as successful as possible.
So, I'm reaching out to the DKos community to see what ideas you have for supporting political campaigns from a netroots perspective. What sources do you use for ideas, what books do you read, etc.?
Note that while I'm choosing Obama, this diary isn't about him, it's about my own efforts in making a difference in a presidential campaign. So, even if you're supporting Edwards, Hillary, or whomever, ultimately we're all supporting the liberal cause, so I hope this discussion will remain about that, and not which candidate we support or why.
